1 Introduction

In this exercise you will map the Checklist of non-native freshwater fishes in Flanders, Belgium.

1. Setup

• Define locale: UTF-8
• Load libaries:
  • dplyr
  • magritr
  • janitor
  • readxl

2. Import and clean data

• Import data:
  • raw_data = “dwc-in-R/data/raw/ExotischeVissenVlaanderen2016.xlsx”
• Inspect data
• Clean data
  • Remove spaces in column names
  • use lower case letters only

3. Map raw_data to Darwin Core Archive

• Pre-processing
• Mapping
  • Taxon Core: see table for terms
  • Distribution Extension: see table for terms
• Post-processing:
  • Save as taxon.csv and distribution.csv respectively
  • Save in folder “dwc-in-R/data/processed”
